Multi-Purpose Crumble Topping

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Serving Size: Varies – 1 large fruit crisp or several small fruit crisps, or use to top muffins or scones

♦ 1 stick unsalted butter (cold)

♦ 1 cup unbleached all-purpose flour

♦ 1/2 cup dark brown sugar, packed

♦ ¼ cup white sugar

♦ ¼ teaspoon Kosher salt

Cut the butter into small cubes.  Mix the dry ingredients together in a bowl and add the butter.  Toss the ingredients together with your hands and then continue to press the butter and flour mixture together with your fingers.  Keep rubbing the mixture together with your fingers until the butter is well incorporated and you can grab a handful and it stays together.  At this point you can grab and press the mixture in your hands and then crumble it into different sizes of crumbs.  Refrigerate for 1 hour before using or freeze and save for later use.  You can use this crumble topping straight from the freezer.

To Make Fruit Crisp

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Add your favorite fruit to a baking dish, or to several small baking dishes.  If the fruit is very tart you can toss it with some sugar.  Sprinkle the crisp topping over the fruit and bake for 45 to 55 minutes, until the crisp topping is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling.  Serve warm with iced cream or whipped cream.  Enjoy!
