Cheese Bread
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 5 minutes or less
Serves: 4 to 6
♦ 3 cups packed grated cheese - I prefer a combination of Swiss, Colby Jack, and Medium Cheddar (do not use pre-shredded packaged cheese as it will make the cheese bread texture grainy)
♦ 1 Tablespoon onion, grated
♦ ½ cup mayonnaise
♦ 1 ½ teaspoons Worcestershire Sauce (about 5 dashes)
♦ 1 French baguette sliced to desired thickness (approx. ½ inch pieces), or use your favorite pre-sliced bread
Cover a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire rack on top, then arrange the slices of bread on it. Optional: If you would like slightly crunchier cheese bread, you can pre-toast the bread in a 350-degree oven for 5 minutes, allowing the bread to cool before spreading on the cheese mixture.
Turn oven on to Low Broil setting or Broil if you do not have Low and High. Combine ingredients and spread on slices of bread. Place baking sheet with prepared bread in the oven on the middle rack and watch constantly until the cheese is bubbling and beginning to brown, rotating the pan occasionally if it seems like the browning is uneven. Remove from oven and allow to cool for a minute or two before removing the cheese bread pieces to a wire rack so that the bottoms do not steam and become soggy. Serve warm as a side dish with your favorite meal – BBQ Chicken is a family favorite with Cheese Bread.
